4C’s of Diamonds:

This short article gives you an in-depth knowledge of Diamond Cut. When looking for your perfect diamond, it is necessary to know the ins and outs of each characteristic of a diamond - the 4 C’s: Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat Weight. Each "C" contributes to the overall quality of each diamond and influences the price you will pay.

Diamond Cut

When many people think of a diamond cut, they are typically thinking of the shape, which are round, princess, emerald etc.; instead diamond Cut determines a diamond’s sparkle and beauty as it has the greatest influence on the diamond’s shine.

When a diamond is cut properly at the highest quality or an “ideal cut”, the greatest possible amount of light reflection will occur in the diamond. In that case, the most of the light entering the diamond exits back through the top of the diamond that gives a perfect sparkle to the stone.

The poor cut diamond refers to a severely shallow or deeply cut diamond. If a diamond is cut too deeply or shallowly, it can reduce the sparkle and consecutively reduce the value. If a diamond has a deep cut, the light leaks out of the side and if it’s too shallow, light leaks out of the bottom.

If diamond’s cut is poor, the diamond would not shine the best even if it has a great color and clarity. A well-cut diamond sometimes appears larger than a poor cut diamond of the same carat weight.
